About Taffy

Pit Bull / Boxer
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Taffy is as sweet as her name! She was living in a car, along with a cat, for many years because her owners were homeless. They could no longer care for her and surrendered her to us. Taffy is such a happy, friendly and sweet girl. Her tail is always wagging and she never met a stranger she didn't like! The reason Taffy is listed as special needs is because she was diagnosed with a condition called megaesophagus. This is characterized by a lack of motility in her esophagus meaning the food does not move into the stomach, but rather sits in the esophagus and causes regurgitation. In addition to medication a solution is to have Taffy eat several small meals and to remain upright for 20 minutes after feeding. There is a chair made especially for this called a Bailey Chair. This allows gravity to assist in moving the food into her stomach. Many dogs adjust well to this condition and can lead happy normal lives. If you are interested in meeting Taffy please complete the adoption application at www.greatpets.org. If you have any questions please email us at [email protected].
