INTAKE DATE: 20-Dec-2020 Hunky heroic Hercules needs some help finding his strength! His person went to jail and Hercules' whole world has been torn apart. He is scared and shut down at the shelter! After spending a week with the owner's brother (mostly outside!), Hercules found his world turned upside down again as he was surrendered to the shelter. Please help Hercules find some stability and LOVE again. HERCULES, ID# 109195, 4 yrs old, 108 lbs, Male, Brooklyn ACC, Large Mixed Breed, Gray / White, Owner Surrender Reason: surrendered into ACC due to owner being incarcerated Shelter Assessment Rating: New Hope Only No children (under 13) Medical Behavior Rating: OWNER SURRENDER NOTES - BASIC INFORMATION: Hercules is a 4 year old large mixed breed, who was surrendered into ACC due to owner being incarcerated. Owner's brother stated that he has had Hercules for only a week but his brother had him for 4 years. Client stated that he did not know much about Hercules behavior but, stated that Hercules is a good dog and has no behavior issues. Hercules previously lived with 1 adults, the original owner. The brother of the owner reported that while in the original owner's care, Hercules will growl and hard bark then tries to bite strangers that made loud noises and fast/sudden movements. He stated that Hercules is shy for a few minutes around strangers but will become friendly and outgoing. His owner kept Hercules away from his children, so Hercules' behavior around children is unknown. Hercules' behavior around dogs and cats is also unknown to the owner's brother. Hercules does not resource guard. He has no bite history. He is housetrained and the owbner's brother describes his energy level as high. Other Notes: Owner's brother stated that Hercules has over all good behavior. Client stated that Hercules is not bothered when someone touches his food or bowl while eating, when someone takes a treat or toy away, or if he is being taken off of furniture. Client stated that Hercules is not bothered when being held or restrained, disturbed while sleeping or resting, being given a bath, brushed, or having nails trimmed. Client stated that when someone unfamiliar approaches the family or house, Hercules will bark. Has this dog ever had any medical issues? No Medical Notes: none For a New Family to Know Owner's brother describes Hercules as playful with a high activity level. Client stated that during this past week of having him, Hercules would follow him around the house. Client stated that Hercules enjoys ball toys and playing tug. Client stated that Hercules was kept mostly outdoors, during this past week. Client stated that Hercules eats dry food. Client stated that Hercules is house trained and never has accidents. Client stated that Hercules goes potty on grass and is well behave when left alone in the yard. Client stated that Hercules is well behaved when left alone inside the home as well. Client stated that he does not know if Hercules was ever crate trained. Client stated that Hercules knows sit, come, down and stay commands. Client stated that Hercules is use to slow walks on a leash and pulls very hard on the leash. INTAKE NOTES - DATE OF INTAKE, 20-Dec-2020: Hercules upon entering was low to the ground and had hackles raised; he did side eye a little, he was very nervous. Admission's supervisor and ACS staff member directly handle Hercules, no handling occurred through counselor. BEHAVIOR NOTES: Means of surrender (length of time in previous home): Owner Surrender (stayed with brother of owner for 1 week) Resource guarding: none reported Bite history: none Other Notes: 12/23: The brother of the previous owner reported that whole in the original owner's care, Hercules would hard bark, growl, and attempts to bite strangers that made a loud noise and fast/sudden movements when approaching the owner or brother. When someone unfamiliar approaches the family or house, Hercules will bark. The previous owner's brother describes Hercules as playful with a high activity level. During this past week of having him, Hercules would follow him around the house, enjoys ball toys and playing tug. Hercules was kept mostly outdoors, during this past week, only eats dry food, is house trained, and never has accidents. When outside, Hercules goes potty on the grass and is well behaved when left alone in the yard or in the home. It is unknown if Hercules was ever crate trained. Hercules is used to slow walks on a leash and pulls very hard on the leash. SHELTER ASSESSMENT: Behavior Assessment Date: 12/23/2020 Summary: While at the care centers Hercules remains fearful and shutdown. He allows for minimal handling and actively avoids the handlers, visibly shaking, hard staring, and freezing when they approach him. Out of concerns for his stress levels, a handling assessment will not be conducted.
