About Auzi Monster Dog

Adoption Fee: $100
Lab / Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

I have developed health issues that keep me in bed most of the time now. It has become very difficult for me to continue taking care of Auzi, including sticking to a regular feed schesule. I have had Auzi since he was 8 weeks, and now he is almost 2.5yrs. He is gentle and caring with me and has made himself my helper. If I fall he pushes me with his head trying to help me up. If I am crying or have anxiety he lays on me for comfort. If I have a seizure he barks for help. He gets fed twice per day plus a noon dog cookie snack. Auzi has grain allergies that cause itching skin and ears, and makes him prone to ear infections if not kept on a grain free diet. Other symptoms are red eyes, lethargy, hot dry nose/low fever. Because I am now stuck in bed most of the time Auzi insists on staying with me instead of going outside to play so is beginning to put on a little weight. When anxious he chews on his front paws to express stress. Auzi is non agressive toward people in general, but is very nervous and high strung at first, but that is because we are isolated out here. My senior dog is senile and acting on pure instinct at times so is setting a bad example for Auzi. He tries to be peace maker by getting between us when she and I are having words. Auzi has never interacted with cats, so I cant say how he will do, but I know he is not good with small dogs because he likes to back them into a corner and poke at them gently with his nose as if he is herding them. He has a strong herding instinct. He barks and hackles in fear when strangers walk by with other dogs, but has never tried to bite anyone. This is a learned behavior from my senior dog. Auzi is very gentle by nature. Auzi gets car sick because he hasnt gone bye bye enough to vet used to the motion and visual. His vet told me to give him and adult dramamine an hour before a trip and it works well. He does not vomit on short drives, just when there are curves and hills involved. He is learning to trust the tech who does his nails at the vet now. Auzi is going to be neutered before he is adopted out to protect him from potential breeders. I will arrange this and pay for it myself. Auzi's biggest issue is that he slobbers after drinking water - he has loose jowels and can't keep all the water in his mouth no matter how hard he tries ... so if you don't likestepping in occasional wet spots he is not for you. Auzi is very intelligent - he recognizes the UPS and Fedex trucks a mile away and begins barking, but doesn't tend to bark when other vehicles drive by. The UPS driver sneaks him grain free dog cookies with every delivery so that helps. I insist that whoever takes Auzi own their home and have a large fenced yard fo him to run and play in. Auzi is used to having our 1/3 acre to dominate and chaos makes him very skittish so would not do well in the city. I will need to visit your home before an adoption is agreed to. Auzi needs a person or prsons of good health who will not leave him home alone often. He howls whn left alone, especially with not even another dog companion. Auzi is cage trained and sleeps in his cage most nights but his door is left open, but I don't want him left in a cage for hours on end. He doesnt tear up furniture or get into the garbage here, but no guarantee he wont do it if stressed in a new home. He needs a family who will out live him. Thank you for considering this guy - he is my hero.
