About Captain Woodrow

Adoption Fee: $50.00
Border Collie / Lab
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Captain Woodrow is a male, Collie/Lab mix, and about 4 years old. He was rescued from the oil field about three years ago. When he was rescued, he was severely malnourished and had a shattered hip. The vet was able to make a custom, steel hip for him and was able to save his leg! It was a long eight months of recovery, but you'd never know he was injured now! Over the last couple years, the vision in his left eye has progressively disappeared, but it doesn't seem to hinder him whatsoever. He is a very sweet dog and tends to get along well with other dogs...all he wants to do is play. He loves his dog bed and hangs out in the yard any chance he gets. He is housebroken, listens very well and sticks around when off the leash. He has never had any sort of tendency to beg for food while the humans are eating, and I've never seen aggression from him unless provoked by a misbehaved dog and he needs to defend himself. We are seeking to re-home Woodrow to the right person/family. Prior to rescuing him, we already had two dogs (a Puggle and Blue Heeler). Naturally, our Blue Heeler was not and still is not, happy about the new addition. There is a constant tension between the two pups and despite years of effort...we have not been able to remedy the issues between them. Woodrow has also gotten progressively more possessive of me. While I appreciate the sentiment, it makes it quite difficult to interact with my other two dogs without Woodrow interfering. Because of these two reasons, we would like Woodrow to go to a home where he is the only dog. If I could describe a perfect companion, it would be him! On days where my significant other has the Blue Heeler & Puggle, and Woodrow and I are on our own.....he's the most pleasant, well-behaved dog anyone could ask for! While he likes to play and has plenty of energy, he's an overall, pretty calm dog. I even had him registered as an Emotional Support Animal a couple years ago! Deciding to re-home Woodrow has been a long, guilt-inducing decision; after all, he's been a member of our family for about 3 years now. However, the tension between him and the Blue Heeler has not let up, despite our best efforts, and his possessiveness of me continues to grow and does not allow me to spend time with my other pets. It's not fair to the dogs, and Woodrow deserves a home where he can have all the attention!
