About Tucker

Lab / Borzoi
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Tucker is generally a sweet dog. His alpha, my 82 year old father, passed away 18 months ago. He continued to live with my elderly mother but now she is moving to a small apartment and cannot handle a big dog. Tucker is used to having the run of a large farm and has no experience in a suburban setting where there are lots of houses, cars and people about. He loves to run and 'race' cars. He doesn't want the car, he just wants to run alongside it, and he's FAST. He has been around our grandchildren ages 2, 5 and 9 with no issues. He also has a small Pekinese companion and the little dog bosses him around. Tucker was recently rehomed with a man and his wife and bonded immediately with the man. Unfortunately we were unable to find him another farm home and his new family is in a suburban setting and he has had issues. Tucker inserted himself between the man and his grandson and would not move out of the way. Then he growled an an older woman who was there visiting. He also tries to barge out the door when he sees a car going by that he wants to chase. For this reason they are giving him back to us and we now need to find him a new home. It has been suggested that he may be mixed with Borzoi due to some of his traits but he is mostly Lab. Tucker is strong and can be willful without an alpha leading him. He needs a firm hand who can discipline and train him to suburban living, preferably a male as he tends to respond better with men. In his home and immediate surroundings he is protective of his alpha and needs to be instructed when he to protect and when to submit. I am trying to be as transparent as I can be. My father had no truck with Tucker growling at guests or shenanigans with grandchildren and I think that he can behave well with the right person in charge. He will need training up in order to fit with your family, maybe even some professional training with a dog academy, you must have the resources and be prepared to do that if necessary. You must have a LARGE, FENCED YARD or he will be a nuisance chasing cars down the road. We will be selective in our screening process so that we can hopefully find him his forever home. It may suit him well to have time with an experienced foster family before finding his forever home where he is mixed with other dogs and isn't in charge of the pack. Thank you, Carol
