About Spooky

Treeing Walker Coonhound / Harrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Spooky!! We really hope his adopter will give him a better name!! He was so scared when he arrived we didn't want to change it but now that he's doing better we think a new name would be perfect for his new life. A few days before Christmas we decided to find a way to clear all the dogs out of a small rural outdoor shelter. Some of them like Spooky had been there a long time due to being terrified, others due to medical concerns. They are all safe now and Spooky is doing so much better now!! Spooky is an approx 3yr old, male, Hound mix. He weighs 48pounds. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and will be microchipped as part of his adoption. He is heartworm negative. Spooky was absolutely terrified when he was at the shelter, no one could even touch him. The transformation he has made in his foster home is amazing!! He has come so far in only a few weeks time. He is still a bit timid but now can be touched, cuddled and loved on. He went to the vet recently and did really well being touched and handled by strangers. He's really starting to enjoy his new life! He loves other dogs. He would really benefit from another dog in the home. He follows the lead of the fosters other dogs. He goes outside with them and warmed up quickly to the fosters when he saw the other dogs getting love and attention. We do not know how he would do with cats but his best doggie friend is a tiny chihuahua so it's possible he would do good with cats as well. Spooky is a pleasant house guest. He plays with the other dogs but is mostly relaxed. He enjoys quietly lounging on his dog bed and watching you work. He's been good about not chewing things up and is doing really well with going potty outside. He gets a bit nervous in the car but rides well and hasn't gotten carsick. He is still a bit afraid to walk on a leash but he is making good progress. He just needs to gain his confidence and practice more. Due to him being uncomfortable on the leash it would be much easier for him to go to a home with a fenced yard and another dog to show him how it all works. **Potty training may regress for awhile if his only option to go outside is on a leash. Spooky has not had any problems sharing food or treats with people and other animals. We have not had him around any young children. We think he would do really well with calm, quiet older kids. He's very sweet and loving but loud rambunctious kids might make him uneasy. Overall Spooky is an amazing dog with so much potential!! He's a gentle soul that is so appreciative of human kindness. If you're willing to take the time to build a bond with a shy guy he will repay you with love and loyalty lifelong. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius due to upcoming neuter appointment) '%BC%8FIF INTERESTED IN ADOPTING READ BELOW '%BC%8F Please message [email protected] directly with questions or to get an application.
