About MURPHY

Murphy is a sweet, fun 9 yr old male chihuahua mix. He has been in a foster home since Christmas. His foster mom has this to say: Murphy (aka Murphs aka Derps) is a fantastic house guest! He loves to hang out with our family and his foster brothers (all around the same size). He is house broken, gets super excited for meal time and sleeps all night in his crate (as long as it's in the bedroom with us). He isn't needy but loves to curl up with you and relax. He plays with toys, walks well on leash by himself and with the others. He loves to explore the back yard and sit in the sun. He comes when you say 'biscuit/ treat'. He will run into the bedroom and into his crate for 'Biscuit Bedtime'. He rarely barks in the house and will occasionally bark outside at the back fence when people are loud. Murphy has Cushings Disease, which is maintained with Trilostane - he takes this easily by syringe each evening after dinner. He will need to see a vet regularly to monitor his cortisol levels. He is also on Denamarin for his liver enzymes (which are slightly elevated). He takes this an hour before dinner time. He did have antiseptic spray for his feet (which he would bite at the shelter) but doesn't seem to need it in the home. He had 14 teeth extracted but eats his dry food well. Murphy does have a medical addendum. He had a little separation anxiety when he first came home and we left the house (some pacing and whining but not destructive at all) and after a couple days he settled right in. He stays in the house with the others when we leave (not crated). Mostly, he sleeps under blankets. Speaking of - this little guy LOVES to burrow underneath blankets. If you can't find him, look for 'Blanket lumps' and there he is! He has truly been a pleasure to have in our home and will fill your life with smiles and love. We believe Murphy would do well in a home or apartment with respectful children, other dogs his size but not sure about cats. He is available by appt. Contact [email protected] to meet Murphy. Est.
