About TJ

Adoption Fee: $350
Dachshund
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Meet TJ! This handsome, little fella is an 18 month old, 11 pound Dachshund. TJ was found as a stray and someone was able to get him in a yard and one of our volunteers went to pick him up. Our first impression? Adorably sweet! We don't know his history, but TJ is no stranger to love and affection. He loves attention from his foster family and is especially fond of the older teenagers in the home. TJ enjoys cuddling, but can often be found curled up in the big bed under the covers or in a comfy corner of the couch napping by himself. He gets along well with the other small dogs in the home and loves to play chase outside in the backyard. His slightly longer legs and agile body allow him to leap and jump high for your typical doxie! He is not a fan of larger dogs, so a home with a friendly small dog for him to play with would be best. He could be an only dog as long as there were active young people in the home willing to play with him regularly. To be most happy, he will require more than an afternoon walk. He loves to run and is very fast. TJ is not a hyper dog, he is just young and gets his greatest joy from running and playing! Based on his energy level, a fenced backyard is a necessity for him to be truly happy. TJ is friendly and enjoys meeting new people. He gets along well with everyone, even children - especially if those children will run around the yard with him! TJ is, for the most part, housebroken. He uses a doggie door during the day and has no issues. Like many male dogs he did try to mark at first in his foster home and he may do it again in his new home until he learns the routine. He has a habit right now of getting up in the night and pooping in the house. His foster parents have tried putting him in a dog bed in their room or up in their bed so that they can better monitor his nighttime activities, but he jumps down and goes back to the den where he prefers to sleep. Oddly enough, he does not have accidents during the day. His foster family is working on his nightime behavior by taking him outside right before bedtime and walking around with him until he goes potty, and it seems to be working! TJ has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. His neuter is scheduled at our vet soon and is covered by the rescue. TJ is a sweet and smart boy who will make a great addition to the right family! if you would like to give him a loving home please submit an adoption application for review.
