About Hazel

Mountain Cur mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

The word 'Hazel' can conjure up many things. It can be that beautiful combination of green and brown colors of the eyes.....it can be a shrub that produces a delicious edible nut....or, for those Boomers out there, you can identify the woman's name with the irascible housekeeper brilliantly played by Shirley Booth in the 1960's series of the same name. Or, in my case, a super sweet and loving 2 year old Mountain Cur named Hazel. My hairytage is quite interesting; a true symbol of the pioneer movement in America, the Mountain Cur dogs from Europe settled from within the Southern Mountains where they were valued because of their multi faceted personality. The Mountain Cur will get along with all of the family members while still being a working member of the household. They are known to be courageous, protective, and tough. I somehow became lost from my original owners, and was picked up as a stray on the county roads. It is obvious that I have had some training because when I am asked to 'sit', I move automatically into the 'heel' position before doing so!! Foster Mum describes me as 'loving and engaging'. I can be shy with new folks, but once I determine that you are a friend, I am warm and hospitable. With a little patience and understanding, I will be your 'shadow' dog forever...always at your side. I walk well on the leash and know basic commands and 'Good Doggie' behaviors. I am house broken and crate trained and get along well with other doggies. Did I mention that I LOVE playing in H2O? Any H2O will do!! Be it sprinklers, wading pools, rivers...you name it!! I also LOVE my BFF at Foster Mum's; his name is Salvador Dogi (quite artistic, don't you think?:) Salvador and I are together by choice constantly and love to play non stop (in water or otherwise). We stop playing to nap, so we can wake up to play again!! I would do great in a home with another submissive male dog. I am a loving girl, but I totally understand that I am the boss. Someone has to be in charge right?? If you have the patience and love in your heart to work quietly with me as I adjust to my new furever home, I will be the dog of a lifetime.
