About Jeffrey

Meet Jeffrey!! Super loving, loyal dog that wants to be his owners shadow. We decided a few days before Christmas to find a way to clear all the dogs out of a small rural outdoor shelter. Some of them like Jeffrey had been there a long time due to being afraid, others due to medical concerns. They are all safe now and Jeffrey is doing fantastic!! Jeffrey is an approx 3yr old, male, Shepherd mix, or possibly Australian Kelpie mix. He weighs 60 pounds. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is heartworm negative. Jeffrey gets very attached to his people. He wants to be right beside you and getting your attention all the time. He adores affection. He also loves long walks and would be a great hiking partner. He has a moderate energy level and is fairly lazy with just a few long walks each day. He has done great with potty training. He is crate trained and sleeps through the night in his kennel. He will whine in the kennel unless you cover it. He's doing well with leash walking. He will pull when excited or when he sees other dogs. We don't know happened to Jeffrey before he was found but he was absolutely terrified of the leash around his neck. We leash trained him using a harness and he is now gotten comfortable with that. Despite what he's been through he is willing to learn and trust again if you give him time to adjust to new things and situations. He has been meeting lots of strangers lately and doing really well. He tries so hard to please everyone. He wants everyone to pet him and love on him. Jeffrey is a real character. He's like the loud mouth kid on the playground that acts tough but really he's just afraid. He barks and acts mean when he sees other dogs but he's gotten along well with dogs he's been introduced to. It just takes him awhile to warm up. He loves to play with other dogs of all sizes once he knows them. He likes to be the boss dog so another overly dominate dog might not be the best fit. He really dislikes cats. We have not introduced him to any younger kids yet. Due to him being so afraid of things pulling on his neck or collar he would do best with older kids. He has never tried to bite or been aggressive but we want to set him up for success. He will do well with kids old enough to fully understand how to interact with a dog and not climb on or pull his ears, tail etc. Overall Jeffrey is a loving dog that has so much potential!!
