She is finally eagerly eating wet dog food that is primarily meat-based and is either ground or pate. She will eat only soft treats. She likes Dog Joy by Freshpet but I think anything soft and broken into small pieces would work. She has been in the car a couple of times and has tremendous anxiety. She shakes and even poops herself. It must be overwhelming because she otherwise has had no accidents and has good bowel and bladder control. We took her for a short ride into town (10 min) and she sat on my husband's lap and shook the entire time, then vomited as soon as she got out of the car. She uses a pee pad inside if I don't get her out quick enough. She has never missed and is really good about it. She has trained me well. If she needs to pee, and I open the door, she goes right to her favorite spot and does her business. She takes a long walk and more time to poop. She doesn't give any indication that she wants to go out (like going to the door) but will nudge and interact if she needs to go out or wants to eat. So far, I can't tell the difference! She is doing great with me in the harness. She walks right by my side very proudly. She will not go ahead or lead but follows at my ankles very well. She loves my husband and will sit comfortably on his lap but still cowers when he approaches and doesn't want to move when on the leash with him she has to be coerced every 5 ft. So far she is afraid of men in general. What I wanted to tell you about was an incident we had a couple of days ago. Lastly, we have not heard her vocalize much. She makes contented noises when you pet her, she will yelp if you touch or pet her too aggressively near the collar or move too quickly to pick her up. I do not think she is being hurt, I think she's afraid of being trapped by the collar or hurt. She absolutely, 100%, will not walk on a leash attached to her collar, ONLY the harness. I think she must've been caught in a snare or tied up by the neck. She is very sensitive if you touch her there unexpectedly. I have only heard her bark three times. Twice when a stranger came to my front door and once when I was drying my hair vigorously. She doesn't bark for deliveries at the gate or at the construction crew or equipment. She sleeps in her bed in our room or in the living room in the X-pen. She loves her bed and the small blanket I gave her the first day. She gets agitated if you try to mess with her blanket. I'm going to take it to her spay appointment for comfort. She happily goes to her bed if I am working or cooking and just watches me. All in all, she is a pretty terrific dog! Still scared but making strides every day.
