About Hadley

Adoption Fee: $125
Lab mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Hadley is a 6 year old (DOB 03-17-2014) female black lab mix that weighs about 60 pounds. She's goofy, energetic and loves playing outside and interacting with her people and new friends. She's just as likely to go run around for several hours as she is to try and curl up in your lap while hanging out on the couch all day. She loves being petted by almost anyone (once she's had a minute to acclimate), and loves cuddles so much that she will occupy your personal space any time you let her! As we've grown our family, it has become more apparent that Hadley is not getting all the love and attention she needs. My husband and I are both stretched thin, and as unfair as it is, this has translated into both of our dogs not getting the time and attention we were able to give them before we had our first baby. Now that our 20 month old son is more playful and curious, it's also apparent that Hadley's patience has grown thin, to the point that we have had to keep the dogs separated from him at times. Hadley will give him kisses sometimes, and at others seems to only tolerate him. She's not snapped at him, but she's growled at him when he won't stop trying to hug her. It's a difficult situation, because both our son and our dogs are incapable of understanding the big picture. It is clear that Hadley is not as happy as she once was, and even when we try to spend time with her, it's not enough. We're looking to find Hadley her forever home (we just found a loving home for our other dog) as we feel we're not able to give them the love and attention they deserve. We're also concerned this will get worse, as I am now 34 weeks pregnant with our second child, and life is about to change drastically, yet again. Something to consider is that she doesn't seem to do well with small children-older children are totally fine, as she loves playing with our niece and nephew! She loves to run and play, so a home with a big, fenced yard would be ideal (she loves chasing little animals, FYI!) and of course someone who is able to devote time to playing with her. Hadley is house trained and will go to the door when she needs to be let outside. My husband has had Hadley since she was still a puppy of just a few months old, so we are deeply invested in finding a potential owner or family that would give her all the love, playtime, and cuddles she needs. Hadley can be anxious, sometimes. For example, she is terrified of fireworks, and will exhibit stress signals when she hears them (trembling, fast heartbeat, hyperventilating, etc.). We aren't sure why, but sometimes she decides she doesn't want to eat, and when her stomach gets too empty, she will vomit a little (she has always been that way, so we don't believe it's due to any external stimuli). Finally, for the past 4 years, Hadley has been having occasional grand mal seizures. They usually happen only once every 1-3 months, and therefore the doctor has said there is no reason to medicate her unless they start to happen more frequently (more than twice monthly). They usually last between 5-8 minutes and most often involve her laying down, trembling and drooling, and occasional thrashing or incontinence. We have videos of the seizures if you would like to know what to prepare for. She typically 'tells' you when she is about to have one by seeking you out and leaning against you before she lays down on the floor. When she comes out of it, she's usually perfectly fine and ready to play again, as if nothing ever happened. If you think you are ready to be Hadley's 'person,' please reach out. We love her so much and are heartbroken to let her go, but we know that in the long run, it is not only best for our family, but best for Hadley. We want to find a family that will give Hadley the kind of full and loving life we are no longer capable of providing. Thank you so much!
