About Foxie 2 Toes

Adoption Fee: $25
Black Mouth Cur mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

I'm looking for a permanent home for Foxie 2 Toes. Foxie was a stray about 9 months old when I brought her home - she had showed up at my daddy's house and I didn't want him to trip on her. I hadn't planned to get a dog, but she looked at me and I couldn't take her to a shelter. I've had her about 5 years now. We sold our house in September and moved to an apartment, so I have no place to keep her. The people who have had her since we moved are preparing to move also, so I have to find a place for her. I've been looking and asking since early last year, but haven't been successful. I took Foxie to Houston SPCA in November and was surprised and disappointed to find that she tested positive for heartworms even though she has no symptoms at all. They had to decline her. I had stupidly let her heartworm treatments lapse in early 2020. I took her to her vet, she tested negative for any microfilariae in the bloodstream. I was told that the initial test indicates at least 5 mature heartworms, but the fact that nothing is in the bloodstream indicates that they are not reproducing. Vet said it's possible that she could live the remainder of her life with no complications as long as she stays on prevention, particularly since she is a larger dog. At that time, she got a one year heartworm shot to prevent further infection, is on flea/tick prevention, and is current on rabies. She's good with kids and other dogs, six years old, friendly, good-natured, loves to run, swim and play. She likes to bark at squirrels and cats, but isn't a constant barker. She's spayed and weighs about 50 pounds. She is afraid of loud noises like thunder and fireworks. She likes to have a hole to dig in to lay in the cool ground, but doesn't dig under the fence. I have no idea what breeds are in her mix. She loves to swim, but isn't a retriever. She loves to run, and will chase deer, squirrels, or cats for fun, but it isn't an aggressive way. When I brought Foxie home, two toes on her right foot were badly injured - to the point of being partially missing. After some time, I had the first toe amputated since the nail didn't ever grow right. She has managed well since. Her temporary home is in Wildwood, Village Mills, TX. If you could give me any direction, I would be so grateful. She is such a good dog. Sincerely, Cathy Parks 409-880-5046
