About Callie

Hi! My name is Callie, and I'm a 7 y/o 55 lb American Staffordshire Terrier who is looking for a new home, hopefully one that is familiar with bully breeds. I am fixed, chipped, potty trained, spayed, and I have a loving family right now, but currently my mom is disabled and I need more training that she is incapable of giving me. I really want another chance at life, and if you can give me lots of attention and training and give me a chance, I will be your best friend! :-) I would 100% need to be the only pet in the home. I do like little kids but I'm a big girl with lots of energy sometimes and I might knock them over, so maybe older kids would be better to hang out with. I'd like adults home often, although I'm okay at home by myself, but I need lots of training so the more attention the better! I also would like a less busy home, maybe with minimal visitors/strangers coming over because I get scared and defensive. A nice quiet, calm home would be great! Loud sounds or yelling make me shake :-( I have average energy, but I really enjoy lounging in the house, naps, cuddles, but I also like my alone time. I'm a total couch potato and luckily my mom and dad let me sleep on couches and beds! However, when I'm not sleeping, I love playing (and eating) my tennis ball or pulling stuffing out of a toy, so I'm sorry if I make a little mess sometimes. I don't love sharing my toys though, so just let me do my own thing and show you them when I want and I'll love playing! Sadly I've been in fights over toys so I just like my alone time with them :-/ I love sunbathing in the backyard, belly and butt scratches, and love it when I get to go on a walk or when someone comes home. I guess my mom and dad said that's 'overexcitement' or something, but I love them! Also, I hate to admit it, but I fart a lot and it scares me too. I am a fun dog, but there are also things that I need help with that my current owners can't help me with sadly. I'm afraid of loud sounds like the doorbell, vacuums, etc. so sometimes I bark at them to show them I'm the boss... I also have a dominant personality, so I don't get along with other dogs and would love to be the star of the show in the house. I am possessive usually over my toys, so if you just let me play with it and show you it when I want you to play with me, we'll be okay! I don't like people too close to my face since I've gotten into fights over toys :-( Because of some of my fears, I can be aggressive to strangers (which I'm really sorry about it and would love some help) or other animals which is why I need as much help as you can give me and a safe, minimally active home that keeps my anxiety at ease! Last thing: I love walks so much that I pull on my leash hard to really get to all the places and pee spots I want to sniff, but I guess mom and dad say I have to slow down. If you could help me slow down that would be cool! I listen to instructions when my parents tell me to sit, lay down, go to bed, 'gentle' when I get treats or food, and I'm learning 'keep going' on walks so I don't get too distracted by all the crazy stuff in the outside world. Currently, I'm working on going in this black wire thing called a crate? Basically, it's a clubhouse, and I usually eat in there and sit in there for short periods of time, and I guess my parents gave me my own clubhouse so I don't feel like I have to protect myself or be possessive over my toys or even food. I also calm down in there when something exciting happens and then they let me out! This is very new for me though. I also am learning how to wear this weird thing on my face called a muzzle. Sadly, my dog sister and I have fought before which stinks a lot, but the muzzle keeps me from hurting her and when I'm on walks I feel protected from other people or dogs. They just put peanut butter in it which is really tricky so I listen to them but it's yummy too. My nickname is fatty because I just love snacks and treats. I get Naturvet Quiet Moments calming treats to help with my anxiety/aggression sometimes. Also, Minties for my stinky breath. I also like human food like string cheese or edamame. I know, sort of weird. For breakfast and dinner, I get 1 cup of Costco/Sam's Club brand Chicken & Peas dry dog food, or Purina Beneful Healthy Weight dry food. I just love food! Message from my parents: *** Due to the issue of pitbulls being sold, abused, trained to fight, etc., there will be a rehoming fee (amount can be discussed - we want to make sure her new family is financially capable of supporting her and have good intentions, but we also know COVID is tough). The whole point of her adoption is to be welcomed into a loving and safe home, not to be hurt. Dogs don't deserve that!
