About California

Adoption Fee: $450
Pharaoh Hound / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Hi there! I'm California aka Cali, a 25lbs, 2 year old, petite Shepherd x Pharaoh Hound mix. I am very underweight, and will need to put on at least 10-15lbs, so my ideal weight will be around 35-40lbs. I was rescued as a stray from Bakersfield, and shortly after gave birth to 5 puppies. I am now safe in the care of HIT Living, and SO thankful to finally be in a loving foster home! - I am a very sweet girl, who is quite shy at first and submissive with people. I am a snuggler when I get to know you though, and would take belly rubs all day long!! - I have definitely never been socialized before, so I still have to learn how to 'dog' properly. I am not sure how to play with other dogs yet, and think they are coming after me when they want to play, so I have to learn to trust more, and not feel threatened. This will come with time and with the proper socialization with other dogs :) - My favorite things to do are eat (did you know you get food multiple times a day in a home??!!) and get attention/pets/belly rubs and SNUGGLEEE with my humans! Oh man, I LOVE being in a home! - I generally have a mild energy level, and could snuggle on the couch with you all day, but also go on longer walks, although things on the streets still frighten me.. but the more I go on walks, the more I'm starting to really enjoy them, and get used to cars, skates, bikes etc. - I am still very underweight right now, so can't do too much activity as I need to keep the calories in, and putting on some weight will make me feel more confident and healthier overall - so feel free to keep feeding me more!! - I am almost fully potty trained! I will go potty in a backyard, and am getting used to going potty on a leash. Once I am in a stable home and get used to a routine I will catch on very quickly. I'm incredibly smart and a fast learner and VERY eager to please. - I have what is called a megaesophagus, which means I have to eat small meals, multiple times a day and need to be monitored 10 - 15 minutes after I eat to stay in an upright position (I cannot lay down right after I eat because I will vomit). I am not food aggressive at all though, which is wonderful! - I am good with cats, and will be good with other small or big dogs that want nothing to do with me. Dogs who come at me to play realllyyyy scare me, so I can snarl and growl at them to tell them to go away! Once I gain more confidence I will be better about being overprotective of myself. I tend to gravitate towards women and even if I'm being fostered with a man in the home, I seem to be more scared of them. - My ideal home will be a calm house with people who will have patience to build my confidence and teach me how to 'dog', by socializing me with men and other dogs. I would do best in a home without another dog, or with a calm or senior dog who won't give me much attention. If you see me online I am still available for adoption! If you are interested in adopting me please fill out an application here: www.hitlivingfoundation.org/adoption-application, and email a video walkthrough of your home and yard to BOTH [email protected] AND [email protected]. Your application will not be counted as valid without your video walkthrough. You will hear back from us within a few days.
