About Indy

Adoption Fee: $200
Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Indy is a four year old male standard Aussie just under 50 pounds. He does well with other dogs but can be bossy when the play energy gets too high and he's playing ball. He's not good at sharing his ball or frisbee, but is fine with other dogs in the perimeter as long as they don't interfere with his play time. He seems to be ok with cats. He's a high energy guy who loves to play ball and will need a home that has the time and energy to keep him busy and active. Indy didn't learn boundaries well in the past and when he gets stressed he uses his grumble / growl. He also has some issues with resource guarding of his person and of some things. We are working on these issues. He has been started on medications. We expect Indy will need to remain on medications for a lifetime. He will need a new home with a family who is dog savvy and understands dog behavior cues well and can help Indy reset when his stress level goes up. He will not be placed in a first time dog home. He will need positive training / reinforcement to learn new ways to handle his stress. An adopter should be willing to continue to train and reinforce with Indy wearing a muzzle and use the muzzle in situations where Indy may become stressed and reactive such as vet visits, walking, parks and new people. Indy has good basic training and can reset with proper cues, guidance and patience. The key is to manage Indy and his environment and minimize his ability to reach a level of behavior that is undesirable. Indy is very smart and wants to please. He will need daily training and learning to keep his brain stimulated. Once he trusts he can be a happy love bug. Indy is house and crate trained and walks well on leash and can ride nicely in the car. Indy will not be placed in a home with children or grandchildren under age 18. Ideally, Indy will be adopted within an hour of Oklahoma City to allow several meet and greets and allow his foster and trainer to offer support and work with his transition into a new home.
