About Clancy

Catahoula
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Clancy is Back !!! He is an absolutely gorgeous SPECIAL NEEDS PUPPY looking for his new home. Clancy is a 10 month old, male, Catahoula puppy. Sadly he was born completely deaf z He is already 80 pounds and will be a very big dog full grown. He's a super sweet boy. If you show him a little love he will look at you like you hung the moon in the sky. He was living in a backyard until we rescued him and is so appreciative of the attention and love he gets being indoors. He's also very grateful that he's been able to learn how to understand and communicate with us through hand signals. (He was adopted several months ago but was returned bc he was not good with ducks and chickens.) Clancy has been doing good with other dogs. He was originally fostered at 5 months old with cats and did great. His previous adopter said he chased their cats but he's back in a new foster home with cats again and there's been no issues. So cats are a possibility for him in certain situations. He is good with kids in general but he's pretty active, goofy and very large so toddlers and smaller kids may not be the best fit. He will likely knock them over accidentally and can't hear them coming up to him etc. He's very large and playful and needs animals in the home that can handle him being a little over the top with his playing. He is doing much better with leash training and potty training. He's giant but he's still just a puppy and was not shown these things early on in life as most puppies are. Clancy is a Catahoula which is a breed known for being active and stubborn lol. They are not the easiest breed to own and train. With him being deaf he needs a very experienced dog owner. Continued training is a MUST! We will be very particular about where he goes due to this. He is doing great learning hand signals and our goal is to continue vibration collar training with him to aide in communication when he is not looking at you. His training collar will go with him to his new home along with us teaching the new owners his hand signals and how to properly use the training collar. He is very motivated by canned cheese whiz and treats lol. We can't stress enough that you need to be ready to train with this dog regularly. It's a daily bond and commitment that is essential for a deaf dog. He needs someone willing to give him consistency. Clancy has so much potential but he needs his new owner to put forth the appropriate and continued efforts toward his training. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. He is Heartworm negative. Vet and home checks required. No farm animals. Fenced yard required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within an approx 1 hour drive radius due to his special needs) 'IF INTERESTED IN ADOPTING READ BELOW ' Please message [email protected] directly with questions or to get an application.
