About Bo

Adoption Fee: $35.00
Redbone Coonhound / Black Mouth Cur
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

I was laid off a few months ago and now I am losing my house. The home where I will be moving will not allow him. Major Jack Beauregard 'Bo' Redbone coonhound/Black Mouth Cur mix Born late summer/early Fall of 2012. He is around 55/65lbs. We got Bo from HSNT when he was only five months old. His tail had already been clipped and we do not know if it was accidental or intentional. We updated his rabies last weekend and have a new tag for him. He also has a microchip from when we originally got him. In 2015 a vet told us he has a fat deposit on his upper back left leg, and that we needed to change his diet. So we started feeding Bo 'Gentle Giant' about four or five years ago. He stays extremely thin, but overall appears very healthy. He can be afraid of cats, but has never attacked or lunged at one. He does show aggression towards smaller animals such as squirrels and rats. When in the backyard, he is hunting. When inside, he lounges around. Bo bonded well with both of my sons who are both now adults and no longer live with me. He slept with them at night. Bo seldom licks anyone, mostly just gets close to the face and sniffs around. We used to have a problem of him chasing squirrels and jumping the fence and not being able to get back over. I had to put up an electric fence at the top of our wooden fence to keep him from going over. The electric fence has been unplugged for about four years now and he has not gotten out once. Perhaps he thinks it is still on, but I don't know for sure... I think he is just older now. He is good with other dogs, and most cats (he can be scared of cats). He is not good around small animals of any kind, as he has the potential to see them as prey. Squirrels will steer clear of your yard when Bo is outside. He prefers to be outside during the day and come in at night and lounge amongst his people. He will get frightened of storms, especially with loud thunder. Since he is of the hound variety and they 'bay', he has to wear a bark collar when outside and living in a neighborhood. Bo would be best fit in a home with a big backyard or someplace out in the country.
