About Roger *ADOPTION PEND.*

Border Collie mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

*ADOPTION PENDING* Mr. Roger's in the Neighborhood! 'Hello Friend,' the remarkable Roger says with a smile. Roger is an approximately 10-year-old, 35 pound, Border Collie mix who came to the rescue after too many years of basic care neglect, limited social interaction, and too much time spent alone tied to the end of a 100 foot chain. This loving, laid back, and spunky boy isn't going to let his past quell his spirit! When he first came to rescue, Roger was treated for skin infections, and had much-needed dental work done. He has some patches where his fur may not all grow back, and a few less teeth. Poor Roger also had ear infections that have caused some hearing loss. As he continues to heal, his hearing may improve. Roger is a sweetheart who sticks close to his Person and loves all the snuggles! With his Foster Family, Roger is getting all the focused affection, guidance, and social experience a special fellow with a neglected past needs. He is receiving clear boundaries to follow, and the opportunity to learn all the joys of living with a loving family. Roger is discovering how to play with toys and people, something he never had much opportunity to do in the past. Remember that remarkable spirit we mentioned before? This clever fellow communicates inherent joy with a merry bounce, or by using a variety of distinct tones to laugh and sing in his deep voice. Roger's also a bit of a sassy teenager, minus the eye roll. If he doesn't happen to agree with Foster Mom when she says 'no', Roger will turn his head and try to ignore her ('Are you talking to me?'). He isn't above using that expressive way of his to talk back now and then, either. He thinks all doors should lead to backyard playtime. Of course, Foster Mom knows better. When she guides him to move away from the door, this character will vocalize his disagreement with a song or a bark. If that doesn't dissuade her, Roger will gently hop up, place his two front paws on her, and try to halt her 'misguided' intent. Roger loves to go on walks with his People. He does great on a loose leash; no tugging or pulling at all. He never turns down an opportunity to hop in the car to experience new places. Roger is a perfect gentlemen everywhere. In fact, at outdoor restaurants, he has better manners than some humans. Simply put, Roger is an all-around wonderful canine companion. What does the Remarkable Mr. Roger's Forever Home look like? This good-natured boy deserves folks who want to give a resilient dog a loving home. Since Roger spent so much of his former life tied outside with limited interaction, his adopters will be home regularly and committed to continuing his socialization. He needs confident, experienced folks who can manage his occasional stubbornness and draw out his playful spirit. Roger's greatest joy is to be near his doting People. He is content to be by their side, be it watching TV or going for a walk. Whether in the kitchen cooking or working in the home office, Roger's People have a dog bed set up to enjoy his companionship. Roger would be the ideal companion for someone working remotely, who breaks frequently for constitutionals and cuddles. An empty nester, or retiree, who is looking for the perfect mix of day travel companion and an evening snuggle buddy would also be a perfect candidate for him. As Roger is always eager to go outside to explore, a fenced-in yard is preferred. A wooden fence is even better, since he may climb a 4-foot chain link fence to confront a pesky squirrel. Roger will do well with other dogs, as long as introductions are monitored and intentional. He has not been tested around cats. He would do best with dog-savvy children 10 and up.
