About Milo

Adoption Fee: $20
German Shepherd / Siberian Husky
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Milo is a 3 year old German Shepherd/Husky Mix weighing in at around 45 pounds. We rescued him a week ago and he was very skinny from lack of food. He was captured by Granville County as a stray 2 months ago. They did some training on him before they posted him on Adopt-a-pet. He's extremely sweet and follows me around everywhere. He occasionally (and randomly) gives me his paw without prompt which I think is very cute. He's occasionally around this one female dog and they are normally fine. But, he will growl/attempt to bite her if I pet her and not him. He gets jealous very easily. He has attempted to bite but he never made contact. They were more warning growls and bites. He will also complain if I don't pet him after a while. From what I've seen, he is fine with female dogs as long as you pet both of them at the same time. He sometimes licks the female dog after growling at her as a way of apologizing, I think,--so I don't think he means to be mean, he just gets jealous. Milo is not neutered or microchipped because we didn't know if we were going to keep him the first couple of days. He is very prone to escape. He is also heartworm positive and currently on flea/heartworm prevention to prepare him for heartworm treatment. I think he's in the early stages of heartworm because he shows no symptoms. Milo sometimes has accidents around the house (especially at night) if we don't take him out every hour or two. We do not have a dog crate so we don't know if he is crate trained. The first time Milo escaped, my father was walking him and he pulled the leash off of my father's hand. He kept running even after we tried calling him. Some neighbors managed to block him in on their patio and we successfully got him back. After talking to them, they said he chased their cat up a tree so I don't think he's good with cats (or small animals for that matter). The second time he pulled on the leash, we couldn't find him for over an hour and we were about to give up when a neighbor called the police. Apparently, he killed a chicken and the owner called the police to have him detained. The police eventually helped us bring him home. He's a very good dog and extremely sweet but unless trained, he should be in a one-pet only household. He needs a lot of training and discipline. When we got him, we didn't know he was this untrained. We were just trying to save him from being put down.
