About Rebel

Rebel is a 9 year old gray, brindle mastiff. We adopted her 5 months ago from her original owner. Unfortunately, our cats have not adapted to her being part of our family and has caused them much stress. We were told that she gets along well with cats, but come to find out they need to be cats that like dogs. Rebel is unpredictable with dogs. She got along with our neighbors's dogs (larger breeds), but didn't when we introduced her to other dogs. Our neighbor's dogs are used to unfamiliar dogs, so it is possible that Rebel did not feel threatened. She is very sweet and is good with adults and teens. There were children in her previous home (approx ages 5 and 12). Even though she is sweet and mellow, Rebel is protective of her humans and home. At times, she can be skittish/afraid, mostly of loud noises (garbage truck) or a strong male voice. Her behavior indicates possible abuse from her previous owner, as she winces when she thinks she's in trouble and fears of being hit (which we never hit her). She enjoys going for walks (on a leash) and is not bothered with strangers or other dogs on leashes. Rebel loves to play tug-of-war and run around. It doesn't last long, because this old girl gets tired. If she plays too hard she will limp due to her old joints. She enjoys being outside only if you are there to hang out with her. If not, she prefers to be inside laying on her bed. She needs a sweet owner that will hang out with her and rub her belly.
