About Zeus

Adoption Fee: $100
Mastiff
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

I adopted my dog Zeus (neutered mastiff, UTD on all shots, microchipped) from an out-of-state organization in June 2020. Recently, I had to move away from Austin and back in with my parents. Things were going ok until Nov 24 a neighbor's son (about 7-8years old) made some sudden movements right in Zeus' face and Zeus gave him a nasty bite. Thankfully the boy is ok, though he did have to get many stitches on his cheek. Just an awful accident I wish I could go back in time and undo. I wish I could afford to get my own place where I could keep him, but I just don't have the financial ability to support myself on my own. It is absolutely heartbreaking to be losing him, but he can't stay here in a neighborhood with so many kids. Initially the rescue I got him from said they'd take him back, then they changed their mind & said they'd euthanize him if I gave him back to them, so I spent most of Tuesday trying to figure out a real solution. I found a dog trainer in Bastrop who specializes in behavioral problems & Zeus is going to go to intensive training with her for four weeks starting January 6. I'd still be willing to pay for Zeus' training if someone wants to adopt him. Zeus absolutely needs a home WITHOUT children, and should NEVER be around children. This is because kids can be erratic and rowdy even when they know better. Zeus gets uncomfortable, feels unsafe, and will try to protect himself when kids are erratic and rowdy- as we have learned the hard way. Zeus gets along great with other dogs of all sizes. He can play a little rough, so it's probably best if he goes to a home with dogs that are a similar size and energy level, though he and my mom's toy poodle are best buds. I've never seen him bite another animal, though he does prefer to eat his meals and treats alone. No cats, unless they are barn cats or outside cats that know how to run and hide- he won't actively hunt them down, but he will chase them for fun. Zeus is an energy matcher for the most part, very happy to chill & be lazy inside while you watch tv or work from home, but he does need a couple of good walks during the day to get that 2 year old dog energy out. He is very eager to please & a quick learner- he would make a great ranch or farm dog for somebody with a little, or a lot, of acreage. If anyone has advice for how to find a good home for him I would greatly appreciate if you contact me ASAP. If anyone is interested in adopting Zeus and can give him the kind of home I described, please text me or call and leave a message at 3253477336. I am willing to drive him to meet you in person (with masks on), and am willing to negotiate an adoption fee that just covers my gas to get there. He will come with his big dog bed, toys, supplies, a couple sacks of food, 6 months of heartworm/flea/tick preventative, and an airtight food container.
