About Sherlock

Adoption Fee: $200
American Staffordshire Terrier / Lab

Hello everyone! My name is Sherlock (Jug), and I'm a 2 year old pit mix. I'm on the smaller side, weighing in around 43lbs, but I'm a big love bug. Haven't had the best start to life, but I'm not going to let that stop me. I was surrendered to the shelter by my owner because he lost our home and I couldn't live on the streets with him. I was sad and confused and didn't understand. I'm currently being fostered in a home with 3 other dogs and even a cat! However my foster mom says I'm entirely too focused on the cat and she thinks I might do better in a home without one. I haven't tried to attack her or anything, I just stalk her around and have chased her for short distances...the cat does not seem thrilled with my presence. My 3 doggie sisters seem to enjoy me though! I've played very well with two of them, but one doesn't seem to want to play so I just leave her be. My foster mom says that's a good thing though, she says I can read dogs body language and would make the perfect playmate for a variety of types of dogs. She highly recommends me having a dog sister or brother as I'm more confident when around them. They'll also help me learn the ropes of this whole house living thing too. I would do best in a home environment with a fenced in yard. We're currently crate training, but I do not care to be left in the crate; it takes me 15-20 minutes to sooth myself. During that timeframe, I am Mr. Dramatic! My foster parents say it sounds like I'm in physical pain even though I'm just sitting there. They don't think your neighbors would like it very much if they lived close to you like in an apartment or townhouse but again, I'm working on it! I hope to be less dramatic with some hard work put in. I am learning some tricks, and if I focus, I can sit and lay down, but I'm prone to distractions. Can't help it though! There's so many friends, smells, and sounds in my foster home! When I get the treats I take them VERY politely. In fact, it took my foster mommy a WHOLE day just to get me to take a treat from her hand, so I am very gentle when I take them. Sometimes I just walk around the house with the treat in my mouth, I can't put it down though, as those stinking foster sisters will steal them! It's happened several times and I just let them, no need to fight over food or toys, I'm a good sharer. One thing my foster mommy was super proud of, was that I don't resource guard! She stuck a fake hand in my food bowl while I was eating and I didn't mind at all! She said I was a good boy! My foster mom can't tell if I'm potty trained or not. I'll go the whole night without going to the bathroom, but when I wake up and get to the door I sometimes start to pee before I make it out. I get frequent bathroom breaks, so it's not from holding it too long. Once she caught me as I started and said 'No!' Pretty sternly and I stopped and went outside when she opened the door. Maybe it's the new environment, and just getting used to everything, but I may go potty in your house when you first adopt me. I swear I'll make it up to you with kisses and love though. Looking forward to finding my furever home with a family that will love me always
