About Myers

Lab / Flat-Coated Retriever
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

We are so pleased to introduce to you Myers AKA 'Sir Bigglesworth', or 'Biggs', aptly named for this most regal and big fella. We quickly realized he needed a great name to go with his great new life! His foster family says he is by far one of the most well-behaved dogs they have ever met! Biggs is a gorgeous Lab/Flat-Coated Retriever Mix, almost all black with beautiful big kind eyes and patches of white on his neck, chest and paws. He is 'bigger' than he looks, yet perfectly sized, currently around 55 lbs, but will probably be closer to 60 lbs once he has gained some needed weight. He is 3-4 yrs old, making him a perfect mix of playfully young and thankfully past the 'puppy' stage of life. He is totally housebroken, calm and quiet in the home but loves to go outside and walk, explore and play with a tennis ball or just run about the yard with his foster family. Biggs knows many basic commands and easily and quickly comes to you when called. He walks perfectly on a leash and is very comfortable riding in a car. His foster family has two other dogs, who he gets along great with! He loves to go places and meet new people (although still a bit shy at first) would be a great dog to bring anywhere. Biggs has clearly been through quite an ordeal before being rescued. He came to us with a severe neck wound from a horribly embedded collar and was very underweight. Biggs was scared at first, but within just a day or two in his foster home, he started to relax and show his graceful and eternally grateful self. He never showed any signs of any fear aggression whatsoever, not with people, noises or food at all. Just needs a safe and soothing place & voice to give him the confidence to be his awesome dog self. He is so calm and quiet, resting peacefully and respectfully moving into his new surroundings. It only took a few training sessions for him to get used to being in a crate and now sleeps in there voluntarily. He sits for treats and has not barked at all! Now that he is feeling more comfortable, he loves to play gently with all his plush toys and quietly chew on a bone to occupy his time & mind. He is a huge snuggler and loves gentle hugs & kisses, belly rubs and just resting by your side, at your feet or in the room near his foster family. Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a dog from A New Chance Animal Rescue (https://anewchancear.org). We are a 501c3, tax deductible organization. ANCAR is a foster-based rescue, and we adopt within a 90 mile radius of Bedford Hills, NY. You will find the adoption application here: (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application/). All fields on the application must be completed. Please read about the adoption process (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-process/) so you'll know what to expect when you submit. Our dogs are in foster care and we do NOT have a shelter or boarding facility. AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL AND APPROVED BEFORE A DOG CAN BE MET. This is a firm policy. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care. Please read the profiles of the dog(s) you are interested in prior to submitting an application. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health, safety and adoption success of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering and microchipping before transporting our dogs. We provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources. If you can find room in your heart to help us, with any amount, we are truly grateful (https://anewchancear.org/help/donate/). We are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. It is only through the kindness of supporters like you that we are 'changing lives...one tail at a time' by providing our dogs with 'A New Chance.' (https://anewchancear.org) Thanks so much.
