Jojo's previous owner described him to be 'unwelcoming' towards strangers stating that he will growl and bark at them. It is noted by the previous owner, as well as observed in the Care Center, that Jojo is reactive towards dogs, hard barking and lunging towards them, both in and out of kennel. Jojo has a bite history, in the previous home. He was involved in an altercation with the other resident dog when the owner was putting harnesses on them for there walks. The other dog bit Jojo first but Jojo escalated more quickly, holding onto the other dog and shaking, and biting multiple times. This is Jojo's second stay at the Care Center and during both stays, Jojo has remained aloof with handlers, though he allows most handing and petting. He focuses dogs on walks and in the yard, becomes anxious, whining and pacing. During the leash walking portion of his behavior assessment, Jojo panics on the walk, flailing and screaming. Due to the noted concerns from the previous home, in addition to his bite history, we recommend his adopter has experience with these challenges and has an understanding of safe, lifelong management of these behaviors in a home. Consultation with a force-free, reward-based trainer is also advised. Jojo would do best in a home with only adult humans. Jojo would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help him feel safe. Jojo needs a home without other dogs. Jojo knows some basic commands such as sit, stay & come.
