About Buckets

Adoption Fee: $263.75
Catahoula
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Calling all hound enthusiasts! This is Buckets and as anyone with experience with a Catahoula Leopard Dog knows, he has buckets of energy and will have buckets of love and devotion for you. Buckets does best with calm, respectful and polite dogs. Any children in his home should be 10 years or older. When he was surrendered to Washington County Humane Society in Slinger, WI the staff was told he was full Catahoula so we suspect he is the black with white trim variety, a less common coat color. Since he has been on the move quite a bit during his young life, he has not had an opportunity to settle in and practice manners in any one home. Buckets dreams of a forever home where he can plant some roots and learn how to be a welcome canine citizen; he will certainly make you proud. He is a skosh under-confident when he is around other dogs, especially when on a leash, so he will need to meet any dog housemates to ensure they are compatible. He cannot have any feline housemates though because they truly upset him; it would not be fun for either Buckets or the cat. He is still learning to keep four on the floor and still has some puppy mouthiness. Although he has a lot to learn he is very smart and with training, exercise and discipline Buckets will blossom into the best dog ever. The young lad will need an active family who can keep up with his abundance of energy and zest for life. He does OK with most handling although can tend to get squirmy and want to play; when he forgets himself, he gets mouthy. Buckets is also not fond of being restrained so he is not partial to hugs; but scratches are fabulous - he really leans in for them. He needs practice with leash walking because he gets so happy being outside with all the awesome smells he just wants to run, run, run. He is actually quite digital with his two speeds being zero or one; either stopped to soak in a great smell or running. He could be spectacular at nose-work games because of his magnificent nose and very inquisitive nature; that would be a great way to give his brain a workout, too. Typical of hounds, without proper physical and mental stimulation, he could have a tendency to be mischievous. His previous owner has described him as friendly, playful and affectionate with a wee bit of a stubborn side. Basically, he is a 67-pound 2-year-old puppy who needs to learn some manners; just give him the opportunity with some training and you will have a loyal and loving companion forever. Contact the shelter to meet Buckets in person, gaze into his soft and gentle brown eyes and let the adventures begin.
