About Cactus (west)

Hi, my name is CACTUS - ID#A4488069. I am a neutered male, brown and white American Pit Bull Terrier, and I weigh about 52 lbs. The shelter staff think I am about 2 years and 1 month old, and I have been at the shelter since Oct 16, 2020. I walked this handsome boy this morning at the shelter. He walked really well on leash, took treats gently and gave very soft kisses! Here are recent notes about Cactus: 10/16/2020 INTAKE ASSESSMENT Dog walked in on leash, very energetic and would spin on leash, food motivated, struggled but allowed all vaccines with light restraint, pulls on leash. 10/17/2020 EVALUATION Easy kennel pull, affiliative with handler; appeared slightly stiff in catch pen, then softened a bit; brought dog in yard on leash; initially this dog greeted several dogs without issue; when greeting male dog of similar size, this dog suddenly escalated into growling, lunging, attempting to bite other dog; lead pulled dog away on leash, dog continued to lunge toward other dog; this dog was removed from yard. 10/18/2020 EVALUATION Energetic in kennel, jumping for attention; whining while greeting dogs, appeared anxious with ears pinned; engaged in wrestle-style play, but interactions remained awkward/uncertain; tolerant of pushy female jumping/placing hands on dogs back - this dog would jump to move away but continue to initiate play; affiliative with handler. 11/17/2020 OBSERVATION Dog has been observed to be highly reactive to neighboring dogs and dogs passing by, high arousal in kennel; moved dog to different building to try and lower arousal level; eays kennel pull; settled once out of kennel; explored yard; friendly with handler, leaned into petting; easy kennel return.
