About Lexi

Adoption Fee: $75
Beagle / Bluetick Coonhound
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

'Lexi' is a female, Blue Tick Beagle, about 15' high and approx. 30 lbs. in weight. Exact age is unknown - believed to be 10-12 years-old. Recommended site for information on this breed is https://dogappy.com/blue-tick-beagle/ Lexi was adopted from a rescue in August of 2017. (She was found wondering around a state park as an abandoned pet.) Adopter has passed away, so Lexi needs a new home. Lexi has a gentle and affectionate disposition. She is very sociable and loves people, especially children. In more than three years of care by her adopter, Lexi never demonstrated any aggressive behavior towards any person(s) or any dog(s). Food and toys were taken from her on numerous occasions without any incident of growling. The mailperson loves her! However - she is obsessive when it comes to birds in bushes. She has little interest in toys or playing games of fetch. Lexi is a hound through and through with a nose always on alert. If you adopt her, any future thoughts of having a snack without her detecting it must be abandoned. This little dog possess an incredible sense of smell and has been described as 'a nose with a sweet little dog attached!' Lexi can also be a very sassy little puppy when it comes to wanting a treat. If ignored, she is known to throw a tantrum by taking her small doggy bed and shaking it. If she wants you to fill her metal bowl with water, she will either stand with one leg in the bowl or paw the rim to make it clang. For her protection, it is recommended that adopter have an enclosed yard. Since August of 2017, the Donegal Animal Hospital in Mount Joy has provided medical care, and the status of Lexi's health is positive. Vaccinations for rabies and distemper are current. Veterinarian did not give her the shot for Bordetella because of an existing heart murmur. Heart murmur is believed to be the result of having untreated Lyme Disease prior to rescue. Under veterinary care, Lexi successfully complete treatment for Lyme Disease and underwent surgery for repair of a hernia. She made a quick recovery without complications. Heart murmur requires no medication. To maintain good health, it is imperative that adopter maintains Lexi's weight within a health range of approx. 30-32 lbs. Overfeeding and overwatering her (or any dog for that matter) will have an ill affect on her overall health.
