About Thelma

Thelma is a 7.5 year-old spayed female Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd. She has only lived on our farm her entire life, from 8 weeks on. She lives outdoors and is a good livestock guardian for our cattle. Recently, she has taken to eating chickens (that we have had for 3+ yrs), and we have been unable to remedy the behavior/discipline her. She is true to the Pyrenees breed, and is mostly nocturnal and does not always come out for human attention. But she does love belly rubs and treats when she's ready. She prefers to sleep alone in the place of her choice outdoors, often in the haybarn or with 'her' livestock. We do not pen her up (she has never tolerated that, and roaming is not an issue) and she does not wish to come indoors. She doesn't like truck rides or leaving, which makes this difficult. She has always done wonderful on our farm, minus this new behavior. She always been around cats, dogs, horses, cattle. It breaks my heart that we cannot keep her, but I would love to see her go to a farm without poultry where she can roam and do her job. Serious inquiries only with vet references.
