About Lexi

Two vets have told me they feel confident Lexi is a purebred B&T but I don't have proof of her lineage. I adopted Lexi 1 year ago as a Doby mix w Seborrheic Dermatitis (they didn't have a health issue topic for this). She was in bad shape, miserable and lethargic bc of the drugs they had her on. They had the skin issue right but NOT the breed! My wonderful vet and an amazing friend who happens to be a vet tech spent the next 5 months getting the dermatitis under control and Lexi is a changed dog - she is healthy, happy and ready to find her forever home with someone who understands the coonhound breed and wants an amazing companion for their family. She does require 1 of 2 foods that work for her dermatitis (Farmina N&D Ocean is the best), daily vitamin E and baths every 3-4 weeks with a good shampoo & conditioner. With this proper care, the condition is completely under control - I had to change vets recently and he is still unconvinced that she HAS dermatitis bc there are no symptoms. Lexi must live indoors but spends a lot of time outdoors. She is one of the most intelligent dogs I've worked with, very quick to learn, is patient and fun with young children, needs a firm hand, and longs to hunt. She would be a great candidate for a search and rescue dog, or for a hunter who will take proper care of her. She seems to come from strong working lines and needs room to safely run. Lexi is incredibly loving and knows the basic commands, but she is a female coonhound and they are willful dogs! Whoever gives Lexi a home must be willing to commit to taking care of her and to giving her the life she deserves. Upon occasion she will cower when disciplined, and this leads me to believe she may have been mistreated at one point. She is not food aggressive though she is food oriented and trains best with treats. She is in a house with 2 other dogs, both males, and has plays well with female dogs. She is too active for my 87 yr old mom but is great with my 3 yr old and 10 mth old grandsons. Contact me for any further information, as finding the RIGHT home is very important.
