About Hank

Hank is currently in Georgia at a trainer and this is her report: Hank is improving daily. He really is a good boy. He has an interesting personality where he is very soft and unconfident at first in a new situation (ie, new foster home), but warms up within a few days and needs a firm (but loving and kind) handler that will remind him of the rules! A strong pack leader makes him feel safe! Although he is initially very excited when he gets out of the kennel (we are working on not rushing through doorways!) he does know how to heel, sit, down, stay, come... but needs to be reminded, especially the first few minutes he is out. If he thinks he can get away with something (i.e. pulling on the leash) he will! He can be quite strong when excited - or if he spooks - and needs someone who is fit enough to not let him ever pull away and let him think that's an option! ) He is treat-motivated, and does take them politely. He tolerates some dogs, but will react to others. On leash, while we are working him, he is fairly easy to re-direct. He notices cats, chickens, horses, etc., but will avert eye-contact and not even look at them if told to leave it. (He is not at the point to get those same results off-leash yet!) He has a great coat, that stays amazingly shiny and clean - even after playing on the farm! No skin issues. He doesn't destroy blankets or toys, and keeps his denning area clean. I believe he did well with his housetraining at the previous foster home. He will be a very nice dog for someone willing to put in a little effort to establish rules and be consistent!
