My adoption profiles tend to be long & very detailed. Please read the ENTIRE Adoption Profile (all the way to the FAQ) so you understand everything about this dog & if you are a good match for him. If you still have questions after reading the entire profile, PLEASE read the FAQ for your answer instead of e-mailing me the question. Most of the questions are answered there, & I'm not always able to answer all the e-mails. This adorable little man had a very hard start in life. He was confiscated from a hoarding situation when the hoarder was found deceased. Then while at the Shelter, he showed a lot of fear, and that landed him on their list. That is when Safe Haven stepped in! We usually only get limited info on the pets, so breed is usually just the best guess. Any small dog under 25 lbs typically gets labeled as a Chihuahua mix at the Shelter. Looking at Bow in person, and seeing him stand next to a purebred Rat Terrier, he is the same body style and is the same size of a Rat Terrier, just a different coat. I am trying to get a picture of them standing side by side, but it is hard because they are either playing, or cuddled up sleeping. I was able to get a picture of them sitting on the same bed though... Whatever breed he is, he's adorable! He stands on his hind legs a lot, and I was able to get a picture of that too. Bow is super sweet, goofy and playful once he gets to know you and is comfortable. He would be a great companion dog, as he always wants to be with you! Bow is food motivated, and he is learning that training should be fun! So far he knows No, Go potty, Good boy (I also clap and give lots of praise), stay, come (he will come when called unless he thinks he's in trouble. Then he will freeze in fear. So it's more of a trust issue now and learning that no one will hurt him here, than learning the word.), Inside, and Outside. Explained more below... He does 'talk' and make some cute noises when he's excited, so you would have to be ok with that... You can see him doing that in this video: When I pick him up, he usually wraps his legs around my arms. He also does it to other small dogs around their neck. It is super cute, but if you have a dog, your dog would have to be ok with things like that. He needs a quiet home with someone who will be gentle and patient with him to help him continue to work through his fears. ESTIMATED BIRTHDAY: 9/1/15 WEIGHT AT LAST VET VISIT: 8 lbs. CATS: Unknown, but he is so sweet, I can't imagine him being bad with them. Aside from his long legs, he is smaller then the average cat. I would be more worried about a cat hurting him... SMALL DOGS: He is GREAT with them! Bow is very loving and I've seen him grooming the other dogs. To cute! He is very comfortable and playful with other small dogs and will walk up to them like he's known them forever. He's very playful! When he's playing, sometimes he will wrap his long legs around their neck, which I think is funny. Bow mimics other dogs and is a follower and would do best with another small friendly dog that he can play with and that could be a role model for him. LARGE DOGS: He is GREAT with all dogs and will walk up to them like he's known them forever! KIDS: 7 yrs and older please because he is small and could easily get accidentally hurt by a kid that doesn't understand yet. MEN: Unknown WOMAN: Loving, affectionate, and wants to be with you. STRANGERS: (This means you...) He takes a little while to warm up. Treats help! So he will be fearful of you, and it will take him awhile to adjust to you, your home, & your schedule. FOOD:He is currently on: https://www.chewy.com/blue-buffalo-wilderness-small-breed/dp/35556?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=f&utm_content=Blue Buffalo&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQiA7qP9BRCLARIsABDaZzhI3wOTGlno-2i1FijjL6AXJJeOn-mtKZxeGK1UJJU_YaPt0qhSRf8aAgajEALw_wcB I feed all the dogs on a rotational diet. Which means they get a different brand of high-quality food each month. I do this because I do not think that one brand can provide all the nutrients that they need. Just like one food can't provide us with all that we need...Plus, who wants to eat the same thing every day? All dogs are fed breakfast (7 am) & are fed in their crate with their own bowl. I have a 1/3 cup scoop in the bag of food, and I give him 2 scoops a day. Plus I always add organic coconut oil, parsley, probiotics, and fish oil to his meals. About once a week I cook for them and give them some type of extra goodies. Most often it is cottage cheese, organic pureed pumpkin, or green beans with bone broth or a meat or fish. He's a great eater & has eaten everything I have given him. CRATE TRAINING: Yes, he will go in when asked ('Inside'). I always give him a treat for doing it. He has been great and has held it every time, so I don't see a need to crate him unless it's to slowly introduce him to any dogs in your home. All my foster dogs are crated at night, and when I leave. He is
