About Matese

Matese is a 3 year old dachshund who has been in the shelter numerous times. He is an escape artist until he is with his right person. Once he feels comfortable in a home, he never tries to leave. Matese is best with none or only one other dog in the home that can be his best friend. He loves to run and play with other dogs but it has to be the right fit and does not tolerate more than one dog easily. He is not a fan of strangers and needs to warm up to people before he befriends them. Once he realizes the person is friendly, he is a love bug. He is scared of sudden movements so a home without children and/or teens running in and out of the house is a must. Matese is very loving and wants to snuggle all day with someone on the couch who will rub his belly. He is a loyal companion who just wants love and attention. He loves sleeping in the bed with his person but will also sleep in a bed on the floor if necessary. He will not do well in a crate. Matese has had an Embark DNA test that can be shared with the new owner that shows that he is 50 percent dachshund and 50 percent mixed breed and it also shows his health status (which is healthy). While at the shelter over a year ago, Matese was heartworm positive but has completed all treatments.
