About Kilo Sweet shy boy

American Staffordshire Terrier

Whether you use the metric system to convert miles to kilometers, weights to kilograms, energy to kilowatts, the love and devotion you could receive from KILO (ID #A1954693) cannot be measured or converted. KILO was surrendered to the East Valley Animal Shelter, Van Nuys, CA, because, according to his family, he was aggressive to other animals. He is 5-years-old, and I don't know how long he was part of his ex-family. Although I haven't met KILO outside his kennel, when I've had an occasion to stop to offer him a treat, I'd see a handsome dog who appeared confused and sad. But when he saw me with a treat, he'd come to the front and sit, then offer his paw. He touched my heart. KILO has also touched shelter staff and volunteers, who have met him. Here are some of their notes: 'MAILBOX (Sat, Nov 7, 2020 7:19 AM) BEHAVIORAL Per Volunteer Date of Interaction: 10/31/2020 Animals: KILO (#A1954693) I went into the kennel without issue and leashed him. He pulls hard walking through the kennels. Kept him on leash and walked around the yard several times. Then I let him explore on his own. After that we ran around the yard and he did very well staying on my side after a few corrections. Played ball, as he chased it and batted it around like a puppy. After gaining his trust he was fine with me petting him, as he sought out more affection. Pulls hard going back. Was easy to go in and unleash. BEHAVIORAL (Sun, Nov 1, 2020 1:39 PM) 11-01-20 When aproaching the kennel, he was in the front and ready to be leashed. Easy to leash at the kennel door. Did not pull. Walked calmly to the yard. Had relaxed ears and slow flowing wagging tail. Soft eyes. Did not seem interested in other dogs barking around him. Once in the yard and off leash, he slowly explored the yard sniffing everything he could. He urinated multiple times (possibly marking). He defecated. He did not go too far from handlers. I put on a pair of grooming gloves and brushed him all over. He was fine with being brushed on his sides, back, butt, top of the head and tail. When I began brushing his chest and underside of his neck, he momentarily froze up and bit my thumb. Did not break skin. Was more of a warning. He walked away. I gave him his space for about another 10 minutes and when the session was over, I was able to approach him and pet him on the head and back. He appeared relaxed. Easy to releash and rekennel. For safety purposes though, I removed the leash remotely via the clip end. will continue to work with him to build confidence as time allows. PLAY GROUP (Thu, Oct 15, 2020 3:31 PM) wiggle at the gate. Did some romping around the yard with another dog that was social and soliciting play. Eventually he did snap for space from that dog. This dog appears to have a limit on play time before he askes for space. BEHAVIORAL (Sun, Oct 4, 2020 4:39 PM) With humans (ACT and myself), dog was rope leashed and muzzled, performed exam without incident. Dog is shy, timid. Didn't try to bite. History of dog aggression present.' KILO will be quite a beau for someone who has been looking for a loving and loyal companion.
