His recent vet visit and shelter intake covered all the bases - he's up-to-date on shots and tests, was neutered, microchipped, and had a bath and nail trim! So now Spencer is ready to give up shelter life in Manchester, NH for a loving home. There's no argument about how handsome this boy is with his sleek silver gray coat, and adorable face that staff can't resist. Spencer has come a long way since being found. At first he was fearful and did not want any interaction with people, but eventually he started to trust those taking care of him. He is very good getting leashed and taking walks. The Shar-Pei is an alert and independent dog. He is extremely devoted to his family, but aloof with people he doesn't know. This description aligns with what Spencer has displayed so far. He gets more comfortable with people after getting to know them, and now showing more and more of his playful side by running around, jumping, and play bowing. Each step he takes, shows what a wonderful dog he is despite a tough start. When he looks up at people, his eyes seem to say, 'Will you be my friend?' He is now soliciting attention and enjoys petting and handling. When adopted he'll need time to settle in and become comfortable in a new environment. Since he has some work to do, Spencer needs a home with adults only, a single or couple who has time to invest in him, practice his basic skills, and continue his socialization. Because he's young and jumpy, a home with no children is needed. At this time we don't know how he'd do with other dogs or cats, so he will be the only pet in the home.
