About Benji

Meet Benji! He is a 13 year old (just had a birthday on October 27!) Bichon. Benji weighs a solid 20 pounds and LOVES to eat! This sweet gentle boy gets along great with people and other dogs. He is very friendly and comes to the door to greet his foster mom when she comes home, and cuddles up to his person on the couch where he loves to nap. He gets very nervous in new situations, but once he knows that he is safe and cared for, he calms right down. The only time we have seen him scared or grumpy is riding in the car. He is not a good car rider! Despite having cataracts and arthritis, Benji loves to play with the one year old dog in his foster home. He is right there when little guy wants to wrestle, chase a ball, or walk the block. It's hard to believe that he wants to play because of how slowly he moves and occasional stumbles, but when he hears the jingle of his leash he heads for the door! Benji likes to know that his humans are close by. If he can't see you, he will find you, unless of course, he wants to sleep after a play session. Benji likes to spend afternoons napping on the couch, but he needs help getting on the couch, as well as the bed at night. So far, he has been sleeping calmly with his foster family's eight year old son all night. He rests peacefully and gets up when the family gets up in the morning. Benji's new family will need to be aware of his need to go outside often and on a schedule. Benji goes out on the leash almost every 90 minutes and sometimes uses the pee pad in between (if he can find it). Benji's new family will need to be understanding of an occasional accident, but we do believe he is still getting used to his foster home. He really loves getting a treat after using the bathroom and being told he's a good boy! Benji was around a lot of children at Halloween and sweetly let them pet him (he never growled or snipped). His foster home has three children (ages 16, 13 and 8) and he is always good with them. Benji is great on a leash, although he needs a little direction because of his sight issues, but he is a nice slow walker. A fenced yard would be great for him just to give him a safe place to walk around and enjoy the fresh air. He does know how to use a doggy door. Benji would do great in a home that has someone home during the day. He also seems to love the company of the kids and other dogs. He is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped with a lifetime registration.
