About Maci

Miniature Pinscher
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

MPMR requires all adopters to have their pets up-to-date on vaccinations, to be spayed or neutered, and on heartworm prevention. Maci 5-year-old Min Pin female, DOB 3/192018 13 lbs. Fully vetted Maci is quite the character. She is an independent little girl who is reminiscent of a cat. She loves spending time outdoors to the point we require her to have a home with a secure fenced yard since she can escape some fencing by way of digging. Privacy fencing is preferred. However, if you have chain link with the bottom dog-proofed, we could consider that as well. She will also be a great walking or hiking buddy if desired as she does not easily tire. She does better in low traffic environments as lots of noise makes her uneasy. A confident dog friend will help her learn the ropes faster and adjust more quickly. She makes friends with anyone who has treats and will do fine in a home with children who understand how to interact with dogs. Maci is house trained in her foster home, though as with any dog, we expect a few accidents as she adjusts to a new environment. Thankfully, she has good house manners. She has only two faults, and one of those won't be an issue for many. Maci is not at all a fan of car rides, so she should be adopted within an hour or so of her foster home. She is not suitable for someone who travels often. The other is that she is a door darter and bolter. She will need to be held, put behind a baby gate, or crated (temporarily since she isn't a fan of the crate) if people are coming and going because she is not an easy dog to catch. She also moves faster than someone can blink, so don't think she isn't paying attention to your every move even if she appears to be sleeping. Of note medically speaking is that Maci has been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease. She is currently on 0.5 MG of Budesonide a day. It costs around $30 a month from a compounding pharmacy. Without medication, Maci has shown she would not eat much unless food was of a mashed potato consistency and would often vomit undigested food 30 minutes to 10 hours after eating. Her diet is limited to grain-free raw food and a few select treats to keep flares from occurring. Weaning off meds was attempted but did not go well. The vet finds it highly unlikely that she will ever come off the steroid. Since starting the medication, she has blossomed into a normal dog. she dances, bounces, wiggles, and whines for food and her meds which are hidden in a bit of cheese. She is also starting to play with the other dogs more and is slowly becoming more willing to snuggle near someone. Her personality absolutely shines now that her GI system feels better.
