Sensitive, smart, and loving, this sweet boy is looking for a quiet, engaging family to call his own. To ease his transition, his adopter will receive one complimentary training session. Louie's favorite activities include playing with stuffed toys, eating treats, going for long walks, and anything that involves being with his people. He walks beautifully on leash. Louie enjoys the quiet life, and in fact, noise and activity make him anxious. At the end of the day, he loves to relax in his comfy dog bed. Louie's current home is wonderful and loving, but in the past, he had an abusive owner. When Louie barked in his crate, this person threw a sheet over him and banged the enclosure. As a result, Louie should have limited crate time. He becomes very anxious in them, and responds with barking and snarling if approached. Unfortunately, Louie's anxiety has occasionally led to aggression. Shortly after joining a home with someone who took him in from the abuse, he bit his new owner as she removed his collar, and later, he bit her while receiving ear drops. He is wonderful with people he knows, but he needs a patient family who can read his body language and won't surprise him. During walks, Louie is dog-reactive from a distance but polite when interacting up close. He is currently taking anxiety meds to help him calm him. Certified trainer and ARK friend Chris Maynard paid Louie a visit. He reported that 'Louie has some definite resources guarding/ aggressive behaviors. He's triggered by people walking into the house and if anyone approaches his crate. Definitely workable behaviors but not in the home he is in now. I believe if we change out his crate (use a more open cage style crate vs the hard plastic-sided crate he [improve]. He definitely needs some counter conditioning to doors opening and people approaching his crate/area.' www.maynarddogtraining.com Louie's ideal home will be with a small, calm family. A fenced yard would be a bonus. Due to Louie's anxiety, he needs a child-free home with no other dogs and cats. His owners should be prepared to give him lots of time and love! With the right family, this sweetheart will thrive! If you think you're a match, apply to adopt Louie at https://tiny.cc/ARK-Application.
