About Bella

American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

What's in a name? Here, BELLA (#A1378703) fits the definition found in the Urban Dictionary [Note: I made a few edits]: 'Bellas are beautiful, although they try to deny it. ... Bellas are very shy when you first meet them, but once they feel comfortable with you, they will become a totally different [dog], outgoing and daring. ... Bellas can be quite secretive, but that gives them this unique mysterious attitude that keeps you interested.' Indeed, 10-year-young BELLA is beautiful, and she is shy when you first encounter her, giving an air of mystery as to her aloofness. BELLA first entered the East Valley Animal Shelter, Van Nuys, CA, in July, but she had a bit of a reprieve when she went into a foster home; sadly, she was returned recently. (Unfortunately, I was unable to acquire any history about BELLA.) What I'm posting here are notes that shelter employees have provided about their interactions with BELLA: 'PLAY GROUP (Sun, Oct 25, 2020 6:53 PM) 10-25-20 Playgroup notes: Lead ACT Jake Asst Vol Darin Very scared - Interested in Rakus (A1943935) through the fence - after initial greeting, she kept to herself. She got overwhelmed by Rakus and handlers. Needs more confidence MAILBOX (Fri, Jul 24, 2020 11:07 AM) BEHAVIORAL Per Employee Date of Interaction: 7/24/2020 Animals: BELLA (#A1378703) when I went to get her out she is a nervous girl but she was at the front of her kennel I stepped in with her she was very easy to get on my leash. Walked out very skittish and frightened pulled hard out of being nervous and scared. Took her to the small get acquainted yard spend some time with her patting her she's quite nervous, lots of lip licking, not a lot of body movement in the way of wagging of tail or anything like that she did so after I got done petting her I went and sat down and she came to me for more pets. This little girl seems quite calm and lower in energy. But still has some energy. I left her in the small yard and went and got a owner surrendered Boston bulldog she was interested in him soft body he was not very nice to her and when he did at her through the fence she just backed up and looked at him did not respond in a poor way. I went and got a little dog name zero who is a small medium-sized puppy-ish boy, and had Angelica come and help me we first greeted them through the fence line everything looked fine so we kept them both on leash and had the meat the little male guy zero was very interested in her quite excited, she still in her soft somewhat stiffish fashion greeted him tentatively allowed him to approach her when he walked away she approached him lots of lip licking and some shake offs from her. At no point did I think she was going to do anything aggressive I would still keep her unleash getting to know another dog and go slowly. We did not drop leashes but they were together quite a bit there is video.' ***************************** After spending some time with BELLA in the yard and attempting to capture her beauty in photos, she was taken into the Volunteer Office where she appeared to be enjoying the peace and quiet. It would be wonderful if someone would open their home to BELLA and provide her with peace and quiet, forevermore. Patience will likely be necessary until BELLA becomes comfortable and gains confidence. If you want more information about BELLA, and to schedule an appointment to adopt/rescue her, call the shelter - (888) 452-7381. In the meantime, please Share BELLA to help get her out of the shelter, never to be returned
