Pug / Chihuahua

UNIQUE FAMILY NEEDED! Hi! My name is Stanley, aka Stan, or Stan The Man. I have been a resident at VEBR for several months now. You see, I came from a horrible hording situation in Texas and the people that had me were not very nice to me. To say that has had a lasting impact is an understatement. These nice people here in VT have been working with me, trying to get me to the point where I can be attractive to someone with a tendency toward traumatized dogs.I think I would like to live in a home with a family of my own, but I have very specific needs which you might think are the polar opposite of what most people are looking for in a dog. First requirement, and I can't emphasize this enough PLEASE DON'T TOUCH ME until I learn to trust you. I don't trust being picked up, snuggled, or for the most part even patted. If you are lucky, in time I will give the back of your hand a little boop with my nose. That is a big sign of acceptance. Second, I don't want to live in a home with children as they are terrifying. Third, it is a big no thank you on cats or other dogs in the home. While I don't want you to touch me or really engage, I do still want to be your only baby. Ridiculous I know, but I am who I am. Fourth, I am open to a family that consists of men, women, or a combination of the two as I distrust all genders equally. Now I know some of you are thinking there must be some kind of doggie Prozac that will help a guy like me, let me just say been there, done that, tried them all, and they just make me worse. Now for some traits that you might find a little more palatable. I am house trained, and crate trained. I walk well on leash, and I love doing zoomies if you happened to have a fenced in back yard. I am also very cute to look at! In summary, if you are and adult looking to share your home with a 18 lb dog that is afraid of you and will most likely be that way for the foreseeable future, a dog you can't touch that is basically using you to cover his own needs.... shelter, food, water, vet care etc, a dog that rocks a green plaid vest like nobody's business, we might just be a match. Head on over and fill out a non bulldog application, mention my name (Stan the man) and I will discuss you with my current people here at the rescue to determine if I think we could coexist for the next decade or so.... as a little dog I have quite the expected lifespan! I run the rescue and have become the lead person in Stan's pack of three trusted people. Stan is sweet, funny, enthusiastic and so wanting connection. He was broken by humans who used him and his siblings to crank out babies to sell so that they did not have to work. I do not know Stan's capacity for recovery. What I do know is that he makes me laugh and cry as I watch his joy when running in the yard. I do not expect anything from him. As such, whatever he gives me is gold. If you are a person who can love Stan just as he is and not expect anything in return....hoping is ok. Then you are the one. I love this dog and we have placed tougher dogs. However it takes a special person.
