Date into Rescue: 05/29/20 Reason for being in rescue: Stray puppy Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None Weight: 40.8 lbs Height: 18 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Miles would love a home where he can be a loyal sidekick to his people. After living on the streets as a young puppy, Miles has learned people are good and he never wants to leave their side. Miles needs to be the only dog in the home. A home with older children (12+) would be the best choice for Miles. He has too much energy for a child under 12. Also, someone who works from home or take Miles to work would be his other choice. What is my personality like? Miles thinks he is a small lap dog. He has learned people are wonderful and wants to be involved in every minute of your day. He is curious and cautious when approached with new situations in the human world. A calm owner will give Miles the space he needs to understand the world. He will respond with his whole heart to positive reinforcement. Miles has been living in a foster home since coming to us. He has learned backyards are great, car rides mean fun and snuggles make him happy. Miles wants to be involved in every detail of your day. He has learned to walk on a leash and is ready to explore. He is good with cats and dogs of all sizes. Miles stills finds stairs to be scary. He is beginning to learn how to go down, but he will not go up on his own. This is one example of how Miles needs a calm, patient guide as he learns everything human is safe. Lastly, Miles has learned food is available daily. He will eat at a quick pace if he feels threatened. Miles will resource guard his food. This is a common survival skill among strays when food is scarce. This can be overcome with positive reinforcement. We find Patricia McConnell's methods are reliable and build a strong bond with your dog. You can learn about resource guarding here. https://www.patriciamcconnell.com/theotherendoftheleash/resource-guarding-dog-to-dog-repost How do I act when I first meet new people? Miles likes to take a moment to watch and see the new people. When given the time to warm up and sniff, he will gladly let others smother him with attention. Other tips and tidbits: Miles' estimated birthday is 5/29/19 House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
