About Max

Max is a 10 month old male Lab/white shepherd mix pup. He came to the rescue about 2 weeks after his sister was surrendered to us. Max has been failed tremendously by humans. He likely was abused by a grown man, and is fearful of men. He has been around men, softer men and been a ton more at ease but his comfort most certainly comes from women. It's taken some of our volunteers months to be able to pet Max in an 'unforced' interaction. It takes him a while to trust. Max of course adores me and listens intently. He's a smart pup, a very social boy with other animals, just not as trusting of humans. Do I think he can still find a family? Absolutely! I have Max currently with a limit to a no kid home, he's never been mean to children, or ever had any incidents with children. But because he is untrusting of humans, I feel like I am obligated to keep him and children safe from any potential situations while he is learning to adjust. Max does trust, it just takes him time. I won't ever give up on him, I know his people or person is out there looking for a lover boy just like him. He does love fetch, and he returns the ball to your feet, he loves water. He is crate trained and house broken. He loves dogs of all breeds and sizes, he has zero exposure to cats. Max has never bitten anybody, he is a fearful pup who will test your boundaries to see if he can scare you. (Low growls) but if you so much as stomp your foot, he's gone. The sad part for me about Max is this, trying to describe him. If you were t come see him in action you would never know any of what I'm telling you. He doesn't do it here, he just doesn't show well at events and meet and greets. He get scared, shut down and I think wonders why he's the only dog being interested with and not with his friends. He's truly a beautiful dog. With the right hands this boy will be most excellent!! He definitely has a good guard dog bark, but we are not interested in a guard dog job/family for him.
