About Jewel

Meet Jewel! She is about a year old Chihuahua mix who weighs 11.12 pounds. Jewel was left at a storage unit after her people emptied their unit. Apparently she sat there for several days hoping they would come back for her before somebody picked her up. Jewel is still processing the change in her life and is a quiet little girl. She is friendly and happily greets her foster dad at the door, but so far is not a lap dog. It can be difficult to catch her to pick her up, but she is treat motivated! If you have a treat in your hand she will quietly let you pick her up, hold her and pet her. You have to let her come to you though, if you chase her she will run. Jewel loves other dogs and plays nonstop with the dogs in her foster home. A dog buddy would go a long way towards helping her learn to trust in a new home. We would prefer her new home has at least one small furry friend for her to play with. She has not been tested with cats or kids but did let her 4-year-old neighbor pet her while she was being held by her foster dad. Jewel is not completely housebroken but does know how to use a doggy door. She has no problem with car rides and walks okay on a leash. Her new home does require a fenced yard. She did get out the front door when she first got to her foster home but came back to the front door on her own when the foster dad did not chase her. We wouldn't take that as a guarantee that she will come to you though and whoever adopts her should be careful with her around the front door or gates. Jewel is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. We are not sure how she was treated in her old home but we know she was abandoned and she does appear to have some trust issues. Her new owner will have to be patient and earn her trust.
