About Maple

Adoption Fee: $50.00
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Australian Red Heeler, Maple. She is about 2 %BD years old and healthy. She stays outside during the day (fenced in back yard) and comes in at night. Is accustomed to sleeping in her kennel at night or in bad weather. She gets along with our other dog, a Puggle. Maple is the Alpha dog and lets it be known. She will not warm up to our grandchildren at all. It was a dream of my husbands to have this breed and it hasn't worked out. The dog is very loving and loyal to me and my husband but will nip at the kids heels when their backs are turned. She acts like she would attack if she could get to them. They have become very afraid of her. And I am afraid for them. We took her through dog training classes and did our best to learn how we could help socialize but nothing has worked. We live in a sub-division and she has gotten out of our fenced-in yard. She had a scary standoff with a neighborhood walker but did not attack. I found out a week ago that our HVAC service guy was nipped on the knee by the dog. He did go into the back yard before my husband went out to greet the HVAC guy. She didn't draw blood, but it did make his knee sore. The shelters here are 'no kill' shelters but we were turned down for a surrender because Maple was aggressive with another dog during the interview process. I am not equipped to work with a problematic dog and our next step may be euthanizing her. I don't want to do that to any animal and am looking for help. Pictures are attached.
