About Winnie

Adoption Fee: $400
Pomeranian / Chihuahua
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Winnie is a 3 to 4 year old Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix, who weighs 9 lbs. She is very cuddly and sweet and loves nothing more than to be on her owner's lap. Once she has fallen in love with you, she will want to be with you constantly. She has many of the traits of the Pomeranian, and loves to be the center of attention, and can sometimes be stubborn. She was found stray and for the last 5 months has been in a loving home with one other small dog. Winnie suffers from separation anxiety and wants to be with her human(s) all the time. Applicants for Winnie should either have experience of separation anxiety, or at least be open to working with a trainer to try to resolve the problems. This would be part of the new owner's decision and responsibility. She will cry and bark when she can't be with people, and sometimes even if she is in another room in the house and she can't see you. She is also fearful of some men, and has continued to bark at one young man in her current household. Barking appears to be brought on by anxiety and fear, and may stem from prior abuse when she was younger. She definitely prefers women to men. Winnie is very friendly but as she does do better with women in general, she would love a quiet home with perhaps one female owner who is home a lot, or is prepared to take her to work or out socially. Winnie seems to be anxious when children are near her, so should not go to a home with young children, even though she has never shown any aggression. Winnie loves to chase squirrels and rabbits, so may not do well with cats - she has not been tested. She appears to get along okay with other small dogs, but would probably prefer to be an only dog as she craves attention. She enjoys her daily walks and does well on the leash, and she would do well with a fenced yard where she can have supervised runs. Winnie is heart worm negative and is on heart worm prevention, she has been tested and is negative for worms, she has been spayed and she is current on her vaccines. On the whole she is house broken, but she has had a few accidents in her current home, when she is anxious or has been left alone. She was recently started on anti-anxiety medication prescribed by the vet, and this seems to help her. She is crate trained and loves being in her crate when she can see her owner, and she sleeps peacefully in her crate for 10 hours at night, as long as she is next to her owner. Winnie is an adorable little girl, but she will require patience, a quiet home, and someone who is home a lot and willing to work through her anxiety. Please contact me about her if you think you would be able to give Winnie the forever home she deserves.
