*** FOSTER-TO-ADOPT *** ADULT ONLY HOME ** 'LILA' is a 3-6 yr old, 60 lb., Swiss Mountain dog mix female who was rescued from a very high kill dog pound. Lila is a very special and unique girl who marches to the beat of her own drummer. Very smart, confident, reserved, and sometimes seemingly & slightly willful (or distracted), Lila is incredibly loving and loyal when she bonds with you. She is actually very alert, taking in her surroundings. Lila loves toys and will entertain herself, often bringing a toy outside and tossing it in the air, dropping it, staring at it, then picking it up and doing it all over again. She LOVES tennis balls, and will put them in her mouth and chew up & down on them, over & over again. Lila will 'bump' your hand with her nose to show affection, and loves to have her sides petted and stroked, often sitting between your legs, looking outward. She has a keen nose and loves to spend time wandering & sniffing; often putting her nose in the air and taking in the smells carried by the wind. Lila will stare lovingly at you, give paw, and occasionally do a gentle hop onto your lap just to get close. She sits and gives paw. Once bonded, she likes her head stroked and will give soft kisses. At times seemingly distracted or in her own world, she is also very oriented to her person/people and very empathic, sensing if you are distressed or sad, at which time, she will scurry over to you, lovingly, to make sure you are 'okay' and to give comfort. Lila is a quiet dog, by nature, but will 'talk', and makes a funny, muffled seal like bark/noise. She can be initially leery of strangers so a slow introduction and acclimation is needed. Lila is not a pushover or beginners dog, and needs a calm, patient, confident owner as her guide and leader. She would do terrific as an only dog in a quieter, gentle, lower energy & calm home with slightly older owners who enjoy a walk and likes a dog that would enjoy laying near them on a comfy dog bed. Once she bonds and blossoms out with her persons, Lila is truly a delight to have around. Her ideal home would be without children, as their rapid movements can startle her. Lila is spayed, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, on monthly heart-worm preventative, crate-trained and house-trained. This rescue does not do it's own 'shots' ... all medical care is done by a licensed, certified Veterinarian or done under their direct supervision (ex., monthly heartworm treatments &/or deworming). All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., probiotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition.
