About Archie

Australian Shepherd / Black Mouth Cur
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Archie is a 7 month old Australian Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix (neutered, UTD on shots and flea/tick/heartworm medication). He is currently healing from a broken leg and is scheduled to go to a 'board and train' with a professional trainer for 4 weeks to learn basic obedience and to correct some behavioral issues. He will be ready for adoption mid December. Archie has already been returned three times due to his extremely high energy level, which has manifested into anxiety, insecurity, and reactivity. Potential adopters will need to have experience with herding/working breeds and be ready to spend several hours a day maintaining his training and matching his energy. Archie is fine with cats, and we are working hard to overcome some insecurity and fear-based reactivity/aggression with other dogs. Until we are able to make solid progress in that department, I am going to say he shouldn't go to a home with other dogs. It's possible that he may be able to live with other dogs with the right owner, dog(s), environment, and structure once he finishes his behavior modification training. Serious potential adopters will be allowed to schedule a visit with Archie at the board and train facility once a week between November 15th - December 13th to observe his personality and learn from a professional trainer what kind of maintenance that his training will require. Archie is a very sweet and affectionate puppy and is like velcro to his people. He adores kids, but is too rambunctious for small children.
