About REX

When I first saw REX (ID #A1951433), I had a jaw-dropping reflex. I mean, look at that face and the underbite. Unfortunately, I was unable to spend time with him outside the kennel, so our interaction was short-lived, while I took a few pictures and offered some treats. REX entered the East Valley Animal Shelter, Van Nuys, CA, as a 'stray' on September 5. As I visited with him at the kennel door, he appeared, initially, to be fearful. Once I spoke to him and showed him a treat, he calmed down and sat when I asked him to. I was told that a couple of shelter employees are working with him, trying to help him overcome his fears. Here are a few notes that staff has provided: *********** 'MAILBOX (Sun, Sep 27, 2020 2:38 PM) ENGAGEMENT TRAINING Per Volunteer Date of Interaction: 9/26/2020 Animals: REX (#A1951433) Barrier reactive barking in kennel but will sit and look for treats & 'good boy'. He was initially nervous to go into the leash when I open the door but no reactivity. Very Nervous. Did not even start looking at me until after we had done a circular lap probably four times on walk. After some time in the yard, found out he'll chase a ball and likes chewing on them. Takes treats gently. Just quite nervous & could use more positive human interactions / socialization. Enjoys being pet and really loves 'booty' scratches and will do a happy dance. Ok going back to kennel but reactive to dog beside his kennel & started to climb wall and bark at him after I unleashed him. No issue exiting though.
