About Zuko (west)

Hi, my name is ZUKO - ID#A4449981. I am a neutered male, black and white American Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter staff think I am about 6 years old, and I have been at the shelter since Aug 01, 2020. This sweet and friendly guy has been in the shelter well over 60 days, and may soon face euthanasia unless adopted soon. Below are notes about Zuko: 8/1/2020 INTAKE ASSESSMENT Moved away from staff. Squeeze gate was used to vaccined. Walked to kennel on leash. 8/2/2020 EVALUATION Nervous but allowed leashing in kennel; skin crawled when touched. Lip licking during collar placement but allowed. Entered yard neutral and allowed all greetings. Canine was able to co-exist, but did stiffen when greeted by invasive dogs. 8/14/2020 ENRICHMENT Came to back gate, slightly cautious, tolerated leash placement; walked on leash to yard; explored; initially flinched when pet, but gradually relaxed and came back to handler for more petting/attention; appeared to prefer calm interactions. 9/2/2020 OBSERVATION Attempted to push out; pulled on leash; energetic, explored yard; affiliative with handler, leaned into petting all over; easy return. 9/9/2020 ENRICHMENT Easily leashed in kennel but tried to bite leash; easily re-directed and walked well to yard. Once in yard, allowed petting but canine was attempting to escape yard. Placed on leash and canine allowed petting. Affiliative after time progressed. 9/16/2020 OBSERVATION Tried to push out on pull; pulled on leash; explored yard; slightly timid but solicited attention and leaned into petting; after some time, began to paw at gate - settled and explored longer when handler moved to another yard; reluctant to return to kennel. 9/22/2020 WALK Friendly with me and sat for treats. Took them nicely. We walked a long time and was interested in all the smells and sounds. Was interested in inspecting me but mostly just wanted to walk. No behavior issues to note.
