About Pearl

Adoption Fee: $100
American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Look at this face. Look at these eyes. This is Pearl. She is supposedly 5 yr old. She is a product of human depravity. She is 35 lbs and spent her whole life with a 30lb plus chain and padlock around her neck, living outside in the dust and rain and scorching heat. She was bred repeatedly and her pups used to make money or worse. She was never given medical care or heartworm prevention, leading to her ultimately having heartworm infection. She has now been cured of the heartworm infection and is now negative. The weight of the chain around her neck for so many years has caused her to be bow legged in the front and we think she may be suffering from arthritis based on her gate. Or perhaps some sort of osteoporosis from losing too much calcium to breeding so many puppies. Her ears were cropped with scissors and her eyes show the horror of living such a life. They seem to reflect a sadness that never goes away. She is now spayed after she was confiscated from her owners. She is vaccinated. She is housetrained now! She still shivers in fear even though she willingly accepts pets and chin rubs. Grilled chicken is one of her favorite things in life now and a soft place to lay down on...but what we can't give her is a loving home or new owner that will show her not all humans are evil. We need someone to step up for her. Someone willing to give her daily joint supplements along with hugs and kisses. Please think about meeting this sweet little girl. She is learning what it means to be off a chain. Help her learn what it means to be in a home filled with compassion and love, not hate and abuse. She was in a home for several months during her heartworm treatment and just recently she got into a scuffle with the other male dog. No one was home and know one knows who started it but they were fighting over a item they considered a chew toy. Because of this incident she had to leave the home and come back to our rescue. We are recommending a home with not other dogs because of this incident. She does not act aggressive towards dogs passing by or next to her in the kennel. She just may have resource guarding issues with other dogs, certainly not people.
